“Friends are only temporary, they don’t last forever” The phrase she repeated to herself every night since… it… happened.
It was a comfort thing, to weakly convince herself that what happened wasn’t her fault, and that everyone gets separated from their friends eventually in life, whether it be through simply growing apart or… otherwise.

The morning sun peeked through the half closed curtains and fell onto the sleepy eyes of a teenage girl. They opened slightly, and closed again.

“Mmm…?” She mumbled through a yawn. “Morning world… Time to wake up already huh?”

The girl sat up lazily and stretched her arms over her head of ginger-brown hair, before dropping them to the bed. She simply sat there for a moment with barely open eyes and let herself wake up. It didn’t take long for the alarm clock to start buzzing loudly, showing  7:30AM, which made her jump and certainly tore her from her hazy morning thoughts. She quickly fumbled to turn the loud droning off, but it seemed to take a lifetime to reach the button accurately enough to let it know that she had in fact, woken up already.

“Alright, Alright… I’m getting up..!” She mumbled loudly.

Her glance fell to the calendar, noting that it was a school day, and that she really ought to get ready quickly if she wanted to get there on time. Habitually, she grabbed her mobile phone from the bedside table, flipped it open and scrolled down the letter H. When she found that the name she was looking for was no longer there, her face darkened and she frowned with the memory.

“Oh yeah. I forgot… Hatty…”

She could barely say the name without starting to tear up, but she metaphorically slapped herself and told herself to get a grip and get over it – As if getting over something so emotionally scarring was that easy - Today was supposed to be her fresh start, where she would do everything right. Everything. Or rather, nothing at all.

She wouldn’t get involved with people. She wouldn’t make friends. She wouldn’t be popular. If she did, time would repeat itself and she’d have to go through the tragic experiences all over again. The helplessness, the blame and guilt, the names, the depression… Did she mention the guilt…?

After sitting with her darkening thoughts for a long moment, she tried to snap herself out of the trance once more.

“Come on Lumia, pull yourself together. Get dressed, get washed, do anything.. Just… take your mind off it, yeah?”

She nodded confidently and slipped out of bed. She made the bed up straight away and turned to the wall where her new uniform hung neatly, unworn. It was pretty dull to be honest, she didn’t like it, but it was a lot more interesting than her old one.

“That’s it, find as many positives as you can, you’re doing great” she comforted herself.

The uniform was almost completely a brown-grey colour – It started with a blazer fashioning a coloured stripe along the sharp collar to represent her year-group. The Academy logo sat next to one of the two large black buttons in a bright yellow shield with the initials ‘SBA’ written inside. Next was the pleated skirt which was chequered to match the colour of the collar stripe. Along with those, you had the usual matching socks and plain brown shoes, as well as a typical white blouse to go underneath. To finish it off, there was a coloured ribbon which fastened through the blouse collar. As a little extra, she decided to accessorise with a plain, matching headband and a lazy ponytail so as to not gain any attention from others when she arrived.

Dressed neatly, she began to walk out of the room to get a wash in the bathroom next door. However, she was stopped when she accidentally glanced at her old glasses on the bedside table. Lumia pondered for a moment – Should she wear them after so long of avoiding them? The only reason she didn’t wear them before was due to feeling unconfident about her looks in them, however, that didn’t matter anymore, as she wouldn’t be getting any attention from anyone. With that, she decided to take them and carefully slid them onto her face, her fringe flicking over to cover the right eye as it usually did. She had to blink a couple of times as first as it felt a little strange - it’d been a while after all, and she’d gotten used to the idea of contact lenses.

Completely ready now, she wandered off to complete the rest of her morning routine before heading off to her new school, SummerBridge Academy.

It only took 10 minutes or so to walk there; it was actually closer than BlossomTown Primary-High, especially since she’d moved. She stopped at the gates and marvelled at the building in front of her; it really was a typical academy. Grand and great to the core. From the ivy growing up the old fashioned bricks, to the carefully built surrounding walls that led to the even greater iron gates where she stood now. She ran her hand along one of the bars which was surprisingly cold to touch despite the warm weather and she flinched a little. It was all so new, so big, how on earth was she going to cope here? Her nervous feelings were soon drowned out when she reminded herself that being a little fish in a big pond was exactly what she wanted… wasn’t it?

Thinking no more about the subject, she shook herself off and headed across the concrete yard, keeping her head down through the bustling crowds of chattering, excited students, and to the boards near the front doors to see which class she would be in this year. However, the class boards were even more overcrowded than the rest of the place, and much louder too. Uncomfortable with pushing through everyone and drawing attention to herself, she decided to walk round the corner where it was a little quieter and just wait for the excitement to pass enough for her to be able to see where she needed to go.

Lumia sat nervously on one of many stone ornamental seats that lined the walls of the school. She let out a sigh and figured that it was already going to be a very long year ahead. Patiently, she looked at the clouds to waste some time. Her peace didn’t last long however, as she was soon interrupted by a group of three boys arguing about something. Lumia decided to stay put and lay low rather than moving, as what they were doing didn’t seem to be directed at her. She did however, watch with curiosity, and caution.

Two second year students and a first year stood within a few metres of her. One of the second years was tall and blonde, with half shaved hair, a black eye and a cigarette in his mouth. She also noticed that he was an amputee with only half a left arm, though it did have a navy tattoo of an arrow on. The other looked very scruffy with messy brown hair covering his eyes and bruises all up his arms; he also had a matching tattoo. The final boy was the first year. He had spiky, dark red hair and looked more… careless than scruffy. He hadn’t bothered to do up his tie or button his shirt properly. The younger one looked scarier than the other two whilst somehow looking vulnerable at the same time. It was as if he was used to getting into fights and could handle himself, but really didn’t fancy the trouble. Maybe he was already having a bad day.

Lumia sighed and mentally scolded herself for being so nosey, if she carried on like this, she’d get involved with people in no time. She stood up, patted down her skirt and walked back round the corner to see if the boards were free yet – Things had seemed to get a little quieter now. Before turning the corner, she glanced over her shoulder at the 3 boys again, something about them seemed to draw her in; the red-haired one in particular, as if she recognised him from somewhere. Shrugging it off, she smiled at the fact that they’d seemed to resolve their arguments and were actually shaking hands, though, in an almost business-like fashion.

Lumia let the boys be and wandered back over to the front doors. The boards were cleared up enough for her to get a good view; she was in class 1B.

“Alright then Lumia, let’s start this. You can get through this. You’ve been through the worst, things can only get better.” She muttered to herself and once again went through her personal rules in her head. “No interaction. No people. No friends. That way you can’t get hurt.”

And that’s exactly what happened. The first year actually flew by, and she went through it comfortably alone, not involving herself with anyone unnecessarily, and she felt it was the best way. However, this became harder to continue when she started her second year. Right from the first day in fact, when that fated meeting meant it became impossible for her to be alone again, and showed her, that to live life properly, you can’t hide from friendship forever – And that you certainly can’t hide from anything stronger.
I wrote an introductory chapter sort of thing to Summer Reflection?

I'm not saying I'm going to turn it into a proper Chaptered Story or anything, I'm just trying out lots of different ways to get the storyline across to you guys in the best way! So forgive me trying lots of different things! Hence the audiobook, manga, etc attempts ^^""

Also, please bear with it, I know it's super long and I appreciate I'm not the best writer! It's not entirely interesting either because it's just an introduction to Lumia c:
